The Last Supper, in Italian Ultima Cena or Cenacolo, is a masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci located in the monastery of the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan. Da Vinci painted this work of art for his patron Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan. The representation of the Last Supper of Jesus is based on the Gospel of John, on the passage in which Jesus announced that he would have been betrayed by one of his disciples.
There is a very famous interpretation of Dan Brown in the Da Vinci Code, according to which in the painting Mary Magdalene would be represented.
The visit to the Last Supper needs a reservation, as there is always a big crowd. Only in 2008, Da Vinci’s Last Supper has been visited by more than 300.000 people.
